Riverside Primary
We are Primary 6's at Riverside Primary School in Livingston. We are keen to learn more about Space with the help of Ticket to Space this will be really exciting
Hey there folks, Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Hope you can join us next term, when we take a look at the Human Body and go for an adventure around Europe. We have already completed our pre topic assessments and have noted down all the things we'd like to learn next during these topics?Europe - Population of European Countries
- European Flags
- The History of the European Countries
- Most popular European Holiday Destination
The Human Body
- How many bones we have
- How the major organs work
- Why and how we get ill and get better

Take a look at our Space Art. The first 3 are our visual representations of what 'The Planets' by Gustav Holst. We listened to his compostition and thought about what we could see/picture in our heads. We then discussed colours, tone, speed and feelings before setting off to recreate these mental images. Some used chalk while others used paint. The bottom picture is the completed solar system. The planets were made from paper mache while the rockets were made from junk.
This week we have been leanring all about gravity and weight. One things that we learnt was that we would not weigh the same on other planets as we do on earth. Click on the link to find out your weight in space. Hey and even more fun you can check out your age in space.

On Monday the 13th of November, Primary 6 went to Inveralmond Community High School to attend a science workshop entitled 'Bending it like Beckham'. We had a great time learning about how David Beckham is a Sciencific Genius and not just a footballing genius.
We learnt that Beckham does 3 very important things when preparing to score a goal, all of which were discovered by scientists. First he needs to get the powerful kick - Coanda then the ball 'up and over the wall' - Gaeilio and finally the ball moving in the air - Newton.Several off us had to help out with experiments such as gravity, speed and movement. Even our teacher Mrs Fallens had to be part of our experiment, which was funny. Finally just before we went, BBC news came and asked to film some of our experiments for the news that night. We appeared on Monday the 13th November edition of Reporting Scotland on BBC1 at 6.30pm, which really made our day.Signing off P6 Riverside Space Cadet

We are making a class freeze of the solar sytem. A group were using Silver paint and glitter water to make the background. The rest of us were working in pairs to make a colour chart for our planets. We had great fun mixing and experimenting with hot and cold colours.
Did you know that:- Astronauts need to be fit and healthy before going into space.
- Astronauts need to exercise in space because their bones and muscles are weaker in space
- They need to grow food in space whilst on long missions
- In order for a spacecraft to exit Earths gravity, it needs to travel at over 40, 000 Km/h
- Astronauts must wear special suits to protect them in space
- Even though spacecraft can travel very fast, the distance of planets is massive that it would take years to get to them.
- We use robots for exploring space because space travel is very dangerous and using robots is less risky.

Riverside Space Cadets at workMercury is the planet closest to the Sun yet is 58 000 000 Km away and whose diameter of the equator is 4880 Km.What have you found out about Jupitar?Saturn is the 6th planet and it has large rings around it.
